We thought you might like to see some comments from runners. There are more on our message board for the L2B and DD.
Congrats on putting together a great event yesterday. My first ultra and I 'loved'
(!?!?!) it.
Hi guys,
firstly, a big thank you for the organization for yesterday. I finished (eventually)
and the fact that it was so ridiculously hard made that medal all the more
worthwhile!
one point I would make is that although the run is billed as a map driven exercise,
a few more arrows in the woods would have been great. I took 5 wrong or missed turns
which I estimate added a good 3 or 4 miles to my total. A couple of arrows to the
'hidden' paths would have made things much easier, without taking anything away from
the difficulty of the event.
Other than that, I know it's only the day after, but do you know when the results
might be up?
Thanks again for the hardest event I've done (and I did the MdS this year).
Just completed the L2B, fantastic! Great day and great event.
Thanks for all the help and support.
At the end of the race I gave you a bit of stick because
the course was so wet,,,, I very much liked the run and would like to thank
yourself and your crew along the route.
Great race. Makes good memories :-) Great work you all put into the
> race to make it possible for us runners to have a great, and
> challenging day. Your really took care of us runners in the dark on
> the asphalt stretch a few miles outside of Brighton.
Thanks for the event at the weekend.
Some people seem surprised it was hard but you made it perfectly clear
what they were entering on the website and in the forums. The maps
were good, although mine turned into a sodden mess by the end as it
wasn't as waterproof as i thought (my fault)
Overall an excellent race (I rated it so on Runners World).
Hi
I ran the London to Brighton this year (didn;t finish (sniff)) but loved
your organisation so much I'd like to do another.
Are there any spaces on the Doyen of the Downs 30?
Just a quick email to everyone who marshalled and supported us on the lovely day of
5th October 2008.
It was extreme, conditions were harsh and my navigation skills left a lot to be
desired, but I loved every minute of it.
So thank you to you all for an amazing event.
I just wanted to say congratulations on the event yesterday. It was
brilliantly organised and everyone was really friendly. The supporters
were fantastic!
I'd like to thank all the organisers and volunteers for the fantastic Doyenof the
Downs 30 mile ultra race, set in fantastic scenery with superb organisation it was a
fantastic race indeed . But for me it was a rare event where everything came
together perfectly and I feel I ran the best race I have ever ran in 5 yrs of
competing (sometimes once a week). Though it was my first Ultra I shall treasure
this race as the best I have ever ran .
Just wanted to say thank you for such a fantastic run: Iknow you didn't organise the
wonderful weather, but everything else was equally good: lovely course, well marked,
plenty of water and enthusiastic friendly marshals. This was my first run at this
distance, and I really enjoyed it.
I just wanted to say thanks very much for organising such an
amazing event yesterday. It's the first time I've gone beyond marathon
level & was a bit of a emotional wreck by the end so really appreciated
your support & concern.
Thanks again for a fantastic day.
Big thank you for yesterday - it really was superb!
My quads and calf muscles tell me so.........
It was much needed break away from a standard 26.2 miles and provided an insight
into longer distance racing for the future (albeit that it was just a few miles
further). It was certainly challenging (my legs have been accustomed to a lot more
road running than off road) and in parts somewhat surreal. My memories lie with
shoes already filled with mud being topped up with lumps of ice water whilst
tripping through reed beds.
Thanks for a brilliant day at the DD. The organisation was excellent.
Quick e-mail to thank everyone involved in the Doyen of the Downs on Sunday. My
introduction to the world of ultra, well organised and everyone was incredibly
friendly. Not my best ever run physically, but certainly my favourite event. Will be
back next year.
Firstly, thank you for organising such a great event. If you guarantee
the weather I'll be there next year for sure.
I ran your amazing race today. What great scenery and amazing weather. Must
be my most beautiful race to date. And the route marking was great, I only
went off route for about 50yards, which is not much for me.
Hi there doyen organisers,
i felt i must mail you to say what an utterly fantastic ultra the doyen was. I am
still buzzing and will be for a long time. the course was sensational, organisation
and marshalling was great and having the race director shake your had at the end was
just special. the marsh will be a local legend now!! a big thanks to all of you who
organised it and i will be back for next year, as this was my first (of many!)
ultras. it is the people that make the event and this event was full of people with
many stories and personalities, all of which were just grand to be with for the
journey. not only is there a lot of praise on your forum but a load of us have been
very busy on the runnersworld forum if you hadn't seen.....well worth a read,
particularly the last few pages if this race needs an appraisal!!! not that it does.
