This run, starting at dawn (8am) from the historic County Town of Arundel, by the spectacular castle, takes you across the River Arun and works North-East up to the South Downs. From there, you have probably the most spectacular views (weather permitting) in the South of England across Arundel Castle and Cathedral to the sea beyond. 2009 results available now.

If you are using this as a 'step-up' into ultra running, preparation for a bigger event in the following year, or a bit of fun to round the year off, this trail run will meet all of your requirements.
The event takes you through two significant wooded sections which, let's face it, will be quite muddy in December, up to and across Downland on some hard surfaces with some reasonable gradient changes. Some events would describe themselves as 'undulating' - let's face it, this is fairly hilly and, where it is not, pretty sticky. It includes a marsh section that, in the last third of the race, tests the resolve of even the hardiest of competitors.
There is a cut-off (necessary because of the limited light in December) and, therefore, runners have seven hours to complete the course. All except a couple of injured runners managed the times in 2008, many being first time ultra runners but, of course, all running the course.
This is a very well marked trail to make it relatively easy for new ultra runners and allowing the quicker of you to really go for it . Our experienced and motivational crew will be supplying water and fruit on the route to help keep you moving along. Have a look at the comments on our 'what people think of us' section and on the message board (or Runners World) to see what you thought of the 2008 event.
End your running year then on and artound the South Downs and reward your preparation and mental strength with this 'little belter' of a run.
Entries for 2009 are only £44.00 or £42.00 if UKA affiliated until April of 2010. Please contact us on info@extremerunning.org if you have any questions.
